How To Cook Perfect Rice Every Time

The Universal Rule (most white rice)

Ratio: 1 cup rice : 2 cups water
Heat: Bring to boil → cover → low simmer
Time: ~15–18 minutes
Rest: 5 minutes (this matters!)




Step-by-Step (Perfect White Rice)

  1. Rinse the rice

    • Rinse under cold water until the water runs mostly clear

    • This removes excess starch → fluffy, not gummy

  2. Measure properly

    • 1 cup rice

    • 2 cups water (or broth for extra flavor)

  3. Bring to a boil

    • Add rice, water, and a pinch of salt

    • Bring to a rolling boil uncovered

  4. Cover & simmer

    • Lower heat to very low

    • Cover tightly (no peeking!)

  5. Turn off heat & rest

    • Leave covered for 5 minutes

  6. Fluff
